History:

Darren is from Virginia Beach, VA (757). His mother raised him, his brother (Ryan), and his sister (Stephanie) the best she knew how. My mother worked extremely hard to provide for our family. When Darren was 16 years old his mom died. The three of the children had to move in with their uncle and aunt to start a new life. Darren, his sister, and his brother were devastated by thier mom's death. Darren really started to question the purpose and meaning of life. However, he could find no answers. By God's sovereign plan his uncle and aunt started taking them to church. Through this church they had the opportunity to go to Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters. For the first time in his life Darren clearly heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he accepted Christ that week he attended Snowbird. Shortly after, his sister and brother accepted Christ. He struggled through high school attempting to live the life of a believer. After high school Darren attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. where he really started to take ownership of his faith and actively pursue an intimate relationship with Christ. During his time at Liberty he worked at Snowbird for the summer. Darren worked the summers of '03 and '04 and then eventually left Lynchburg to work full-time at Snowbird. He has worked as a full-time staff member since March, 2006. While at Snowbird he has really grown close to Christ, and he is trying to conform to His image daily. Since being there Darren has learned so much about community, sharing his faith, and intimacy with Christ. He is so thankful for how God has brought him along this road of sanctification.

Darren's mom was born in England and moved to the U.S when her mother married an American. So, his mom's side of the family lives in England. He has been to England with his grandma many times to visit family members. As a believer, Darren has felt the calling to go to England and share Christ with his family, but he has waited for God's plan and exact timing. God gave him and Josh Gay (Darren's former co-worker and trip partner) the means to begin this trip. SMOi is Darren's sending agency. He will be accountable to Snowbird, Josh, and a local church in England. He wants to learn the culture and be a part of his community. Short term, he wants to get involved locally and start to share Christ with people by experiencing life with them. Long term, he wants to be part of a small group that focuses on community and discipleship. His overall purpose is to share Christ with his words and his life everyday.
