Emily's blog
History:
Emily grew up in a small town in western North Carolina and felt the call to missions at an early age. She attended school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and spent a summer serving at an orphanage in South Africa. After she graduated, she felt the call back to South Africa and spent the next year ministering there. She also spent several months working in an orphanage in Mexico then went back to South Africa for the remainder of the year. While there, Emily saw a desperate need around her in the lack of quality healthcare available to the people. She saw this as an opportunity for ministry and felt called to pursue a degree in occupational therapy. Emily went back to grad school and later returned to Africa and spent a semester working at a government hospital. After finishing her degree, she began to pray about using her skill set in order to engage an unreached people group in order to bring the Gospel to them.
Strategy:
Emily is serving in an area that is predominantly Muslim. In fact, this region includes many of the top unreached people groups in the world with about 99% of the people being lost. This area of the world is closed to the Gospel and does not allow missionaries to have access to the countries. In many of these places, Muslims who profess faith in Jesus Christ can be put to death. Evangelization efforts among them are challenging due to restrictions in many of the countries and general antagonism to the Gospel, meaning that many people have never even heard the message of the Gospel. Emily has an allied health care background and she, along with a partner, will be working with children with disabilities in an area with little to no healthcare available. Because she will be doing home health and working in the community, she will be able to build relationships with people and share the Good News through these relationships. Prayer Requests:
- Ask the Lord to call people who are willing to reach out and share the love of Christ with these people.
- Pray that God will raise up faithful intercessors who will stand in the gap for them.
- Ask God to give the Arab believers opportunities to share the love of Christ with their own people.
- Pray that their traditional Muslim culture will soften, creating open doors for the Gospel to be preached among them.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to open the hearts of the Arabs towards Christians so that they will be receptive to the Gospel.
- Muslims all over the world are having dreams and visions of Jesus Christ. Pray that God will reveal Himself to other Muslims through dreams and visions.
- Pray for Emily as she learns the language and the culture in which she will be living. Pray that she will be able to learn Arabic in order to share with the women and children she will be working with.
- Pray that Emily will be able to build relationships with the people she will comes in contact with and that they will be open to hearing the truth of God's Word and love for them.
Support:
Emily will be fully funded through a nonprofit organization.
