History:

Racheal is from Key West and grew as a child of marine life. Fishing and scuba diving are among her favorite past-times. She gave her heart to Christ when she was a teenager. She served in Honduras for 6 months at an orphanage during 2006. In 2007, she hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Vermont.

Corey is from Winston-Salem, NC and grew up in church as the son of a plumber and a nurse. He was born again at the age of 9 and has been a work (of God) in progress ever since. He attended Appalachian State and later served in Ecuador and Peru from 2006 to 2008 with the Xtreme Team (www.thextremeteam.org).

Racheal and corey are from very different backgrounds, though they have so much in common. Having met at Snowbird in 2005 they later went their separate ways. In August 2008 they were united in marriage and are currently residing in Tobaccoville, NC. Racheal is a part-time student and part-time worker with children with special needs. Corey is a plumber and helps out with the wrestling team at the local high school. They currently are part of the River Church (www.riverchurchlive.com).

They gave birth to their first child, Fisher, in September 2009. After Fisher is about thirteen months old they plan to move to Rockville, VA for training and then in December 2010 move to West Africa.

Strategy:

The Pendergrasses, Lord willing, are headed to Peru for the summer of 2010. There they will hook up with the Taliaferro family of the Xtreme Team. They will be teachers during the 3-month intensive training camp for Latino and indigenous missionaries.

Racheal and corey will later move to a particular country of West Africa.  The S people have over one million members. They practice folk Islam (synchronization of classic Islam with ancestry worship and magic).  The Pendergrasses hope to move there in December 2010 and will remain for 3-4 years. They will be church planters that will spend most of time time living in unreached.

Tentative timeline for preparation for West Africa departure:
+September 15, 2010 :: Appointment (Brandon, FL)
+October 11- December 12, 2010 :: Field Personell Orientation (Rockville, VA)
+Soon after December 12, 2010 :: Deployment to West Africa!

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray that we would be good examples of what Godly parents looks like so that our son might in turn one day understand what it is to know his or her heavenly Father.
  • Pray for the Latino and indigenous missionaries we will teach in Peru during summer of 2010. May they reach many South Americans that i could not.
  • Pray for the S people group.  They are unreached without the Gospel of Christ (<0.02% evangelical believers).

Support:

The Pendergrasses are raising all their finances for Peru. The trip will cost between $3500-$4000. If you're moved to support us financially please make out a tax deductible check to our home church, "The River Church" (www.riverchurchlive.com) with "Pendergrasses 2 Peru" in the memo. Please send that to 4307 Welcome-Arcadia Road, Lexington NC 27295.

While in West Africa corey and Racheal will have all the financial support they need from the IMB.
